In this in-depth process, I evaluate your manuscript with detailed comments and suggestions, refining your draft and shaping it into a comprehensive work.
Going several times through your work, I focus on the big picture, such as plot, characterization, setting, POV, etc. Every manuscript has different needs, and my developmental process might concern anything from plot holes to characters’ inconsistencies and unsatisfactory arcs.
Substantive editing goes beyond line editing to identify what’s missing and unnecessary in your draft, all intending to make it as coherent and moving as possible.
Aside from my comments inside the document, you’ll receive a detailed report (10 pages minimum) with overall impressions, plot analysis and premise, character development, chapter-by-chapter analysis, plot continuity, and suggestions for improvement.
RATES: $0.006/word
(two passes with author review in between)
Here’s where I go through your manuscript line-by-line with the sole purpose of improving flow and readability. This includes sentence rewriting (if necessary), smoothing awkward sentences, removing wordiness, improving pacing, removing annoying repetitions and opting for the right words to make your story shine.
This by no means implies that I’ll be changing your voice and writing style. My job is to improve your manuscript, not overwrite it. Line editing reworks passages that require additional attention, resulting in a consistent, confident, and powerful final result.
More specifically:
Your MS is evaluated as a whole, tackling problems of structure, organization, coherence, and logical consistency
- I might remove/add context, but I won’t alter your style
- Paragraphs may be rewritten, condensed, or expanded.
- showing vs. telling
- contradictions, inconsistencies, and plot holes
- grammar (tense usage, passive voice, etc.)
- sentence structure, redundancy, repetitions
- POV, subject-verb agreement, lengthy sentences/paragraphs
RATES: $0.01/word
From word spacing to spelling errors, I read through your book to ensure that there are no annoying mistakes. I’ll be looking for punctuation, misspellings, stylistic inconsistencies, missing words, etc.
I’ll make sure your MS doesn’t have embarrassing mistakes that can put off your readers. Since this is a final check before publishing, no big changes are made to the manuscript at this level.
Proofreading can also be applied in previously published works in need of some extra TLC.
RATES: $0.005/word
Whether you’re looking for a second set of eyes to read your manuscript and provide feedback, or a more thorough read and evaluation, I’ve got you covered! As a voracious reader (with an average of reading 200 books a year), I pride myself on providing personalized guidance, encouragement and attention that is second to none.
Don’t settle for a Beta Reader who rushes through your hard work and produces generic reports that lack thought and insight.
Aside from my comments inside the document, you’ll also receive a detailed report with an overall impression, character analysis, editing suggestions (light editing is included in my beta services), chapter-by-chapter analysis, and suggestions for improvement.
Please remember that my comments reflect my opinions and how I perceive the story. It’s up to you whether you want to incorporate my suggestions into your final manuscript.
Sample Line Editing
If we haven’t worked together before, a sample edit is required. The sample will allow you to see how I edit and decide if you want to work with me.
Furthermore, the sample edit allows me to estimate how long a full edit of your manuscript will take, as well as whether it’s the right genre/trope for me to tackle.
Please do not request a sample edit if you have no intention of using my services.
Notes
- As a rule, I don’t edit or beta works that I wouldn’t pick as a reader. I work primarily on fiction, namely: romance (clean and erotic), fantasy (high and low), and mystery novels. Genres I don’t work on: Dystopia, (Post) Apocalyptic, satire, religion, politics, philosophy, and anything that’s got to do with theories about COVID.However, since each book is unique, feel free to fill in the contact form to discuss your project.
- I don’t offer sample edits for developmental editing, proofreading, and beta reading.
- Presently, I don’t accept works less than 10.000 words.
- I don’t accept works that have been translated by an online translator (machine).
- Due to my heavy schedule, I’d suggest contacting me before you finish writing your novel to discuss availability.
- All projects are completed with MS Word, utilizing the Track Changes feature.
- Please contact me if you want your manuscript to be fully edited (developmental editing, copy/line editing, and proofreading). This includes at least two passes with the author’s input in-between.
- While I strive to provide authors with flawless editing, I don’t claim to be perfect. For that reason, I recommend more than one level of editing in the editing process.
- Payments: All payments are processed through PayPal. Full payment is required before delivering the edited manuscript. There will be no refunds.
- All prices are in US Dollars.
